These funds will be used by the Salmon-Challis National Forest to repair an exclosure fence in Moyer Basin, which is a vitally important area for wildlife in the Panther Creek watershed. The fence was installed in 1992 to protect a severely degraded small stream channel and allow an associated riparian area and meadow to recover. The area includes an elk caving ground, and it provides important brood-rearing habitat for Greater sage-grouse that migrate over in the spring from breeding grounds along the Main Salmon River.

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) will use these funds to help acquire a conservation easement on 1,425 acres of the Hanging T Ranch, located in the heart of TNC’s Upper Salmon program geography in central Idaho. Due to its size, freshwater values and proximity to existing protected areas, the project represents an unprecedented conservation opportunity of critical importance to the survival of salmon in the Pacific northwest.

This project was funded to create a new Redfish Lake Creek Trap Information Kiosk – a 3-panel informational Kiosk, a current information board, and sign with the trap name for the Redfish lake Creek trap. The Sockeye Salmon trap was originally installed in the early 1950’s and was rebuilt in 2018. The kiosk would provide Sockeye Salmon Recovery Program objectives and provide information on how the smolt and adult weirs are operated to monitor Sockeye Salmon migration numbers. Information would also be provided on current smolt outmigration and adult return numbers. This trapsite is a high profile area due to its close proximity to Redfish lake and surrounding campgrounds. The trapsite is accessible to the public and will be greatly enhanced with an informational kiosk especially at times when staff are not around to provide public outreach.

This project is to establish a Salmon Community Aspen Grove and Interpretive Site at the Sacajawea Center in Salmon, ID. Requested funds will also be used to develop and deploy four mobile interpretive signs at restoration sites on BLM and Forest Service lands. The interpretive signs are intended to elevate community & visitor engagement and investment in aspen restoration by providing an entry level education to “why aspen restoration, why now, and what can I do to help?”
