Idaho Dept. Fish & Game – Idaho Nature Backpack Project

The Watchable Wildlife Program created Idaho’s first nature backpack program focusing on childcare facilities around the state where the goal was to get children outside and engaged with nature. The project was part of their participation in the nationwide “Children in Nature initiative” and Idaho’s “Be Outside” programs.  The program partnered with selected child care providers, and provided them with backpacks designed to enhance the time spent in nature in any setting: on a field trips, local parks, walks in the neighborhoods or free play at the day care.  Backpacks included:  insect nets, magnifying glasses, flying discs, animal trading cards, and ID books.  One hundred backpacks were awarded through an application process.
